I had a Primm-inition ... How a spur of the moment day trip turned into an amazing hot streak!
Sugarland - April 23, 2010 If you ever spend more than a week in Las Vegas, the strip can be a dangerous place for your bank roll. Gambling is a reflection of life and every trip is full of ups and downs. In a short trip, your hoping that you catch a hot streak and don't have time to go cold. If you are in Las Vegas for an extended stay over a pool tournament, convention or just an extended break from the day to day grind you probably want to take the time to explore Vegas and some of the amazing day trips. Other articles will cover the winery up in Pahrump, and trips to the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon but one day trip turned around my entire summer by combining a great concert, shopping, golf, and a 40 minute roll on the craps table. One of the best secrets for Las Vegas concerts is the Start of the Desert Arena in Primm, Nevada. Primm is a small town on the California-Nevada border about thirty miles to the west of Las Vegas. Theesert Star Arena, which is located at Whisky Pete's casino, is an intimate 5,000 seat arena where you can see some of the great performers of the 80's. Previous concerts last year included Pat Benatar, Chicago and other headliners. Upcoming concerts include: Air Supply, Travis Tritt, Brett Michaels, Sugarland and many others. My wife had been bugging me to go to a concert but I really hadn't given it much thought. I was on a bit of a cold streak so I was lost in the radio as we were driving with "Hit me with your best shot" bringing back memories of my youth and an Amazing run in Atlantic City after seeing Pat Benatar at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. As the block of Benatar songs ended, the DJ announced there were still tickets left for that evenings show at the Star of the Desert Arena. 40 Minutes later we were walking into Whiskey Petes and picked up a pretty good pair of tickets considering we just showed up. The Arena is really a great place to see a show since the stage is close to the preferred seating areas. In all of the performances that I have seen there, I have never gotten a bad seat whether it is in the first couple of rows or in the back of the arena. The people watching is also incredible combinging great acts with new fans and people reliving their youth. Adding alcohol to the mix simpy adds to the amusement. After the show, we went to the bar over in Buffalo Bills, one of the three resorts in Primm. The casino actually had a very comfortable feel to it and three of the girls who had attended the concert were trying to play craps for the first time. I watched as one of them carefully put a $5 chip on the pass line ... 10. Gut instinct took over and I put a modest 27 across with $5 on the hard 10. After a few numbers ... hard 10. I don't even know her name, but I'll remember the roll as she held the dice for just over 40 minutes making nothing but naturals and hard ways if she had a point. After back to back elevens ... I partey I wish I played, she came right back with a hard 10. I never did anything but press one unit at a time and press winning hard ways. The final bet she hit was a hard 8 that I had pressed from 5 to 10 to 20 to 40 to 80 ... That to go along with my $100 line bet and $500 odds. Final cash out was + 4,240. It really bothered me that she had only made about $90 on her roll so I tipped the dealers $100 and gave her and both of her friends a $100. We played several more hours and were ready to call it a night when the host graciously comped our room and breakfast. The next afternoon we went through the outlet center and picked up some great bargains including a pair of saphire earings that my wife swears are my good luck charm. Primm Hotels - You can book tickets at the Arena through the website or through ticketmaster. Buffalo Bill's Resort & Casino The outlet center at Primm also has some incredible values - Here is the listing of shops at the Primm Outlets:
